about

Alejandra's second full-length album, released September 2011.

"Alejandra O’Leary’s new album Broken Mirror Baby opens with a blast of pure 50′s girl group bubble gum pop. The opening track , “@ The Club” finds O’Leary going off like she’s a digital age Ronnette, a bad girl taunting some poor boy with the chorus, ” You should have been sorry at the club.” ...you’ll find yourself singing along to the track within the first two minutes.Much like current indie pop darlings The Alabama Shakes , O’Leary mines 50′s and 60′s soul music. The difference being O’Leary adds a modern electronic, alternative twist. She adds as much to the music as she borrows."
- Critic Studio Magazine

"O'Leary's voice sounds like a combination of Jenny Lewis and Victoria Williams. and her songs are both catchy and fun - polished, straightforward, and barroom accessible. But they also have a certain lyrical toughness that's reminiscent of another Williams, Lucinda. In "Broken Mirror Baby" (the title track of her brand new second album), she delivers lyrics about "talking smack and shooting your mouth off" and getting "the wind kicked out of me". "When Will They Learn?" is an anti-crush song about wanting other people to realize the faults of her former boyfriend and stop pining over him - a very Lucinda Williams-ish theme."
- Ann Arbor Observer

"Ms. O’Leary knows her way around a lyric and many of the songs on this album neatly capture relationships on the cusp of self destruction with the reflective nature of her words being best illustrated in ”Connect With Me” that elegantly counterpoints her controlled vocals with the song’s lyrical intent. “Horses” seems likewise to spring from the same source of inspiration but this time mixes a fifties style cute vocal with electro rock for its sonic signature...This album impresses for the earnest enthusiasm that Ms O’Leary brings to the party. Maybe next time it will be time for love and marriage?"
